Dimethyl fumarate is the methyl ester of fumaric acid and is named after the earth smoke plant. DMF combined with three other fumaric acid esters is solely licensed in Germany as an oral therapy for psoriasis.
Dimethyl fumarate is in a class of medications called Nrf2 activators. It works by decreasing inflammation and preventing nerve damage that may cause symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
Dimethyl fumarate is an enoate ester resulting from the formal condensation of both carboxy groups of fumaric acid with methanol. Used for treatment of adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis. It has a role as an immunomodulator and an antipsoriatic. It is an enoate ester, a methyl ester and a diester.
